The sun came out to fight on that particular day after a wrestling match with the rain for a week-long stretch. What it means is that it was “FREAKEN HOT” with clear blue skies (the typical December weather). Zoo Lake was the setting for an event of epic proportions with a dose of shorts, shades and 2017 summer fashion. All the coolkids and street influencers came out play.
There was lots of entertainment such as the 3-on-3 basketball tournament, slam dunk contest, the dj battle and MC freestyle battle which, on its own was not very convincing (Must be something in the water). The MCs for the Nike Battle Force series were Jerome “Slim” Du Plooy, Siyabonga “Scoop” Ngwekazi, LootLove, Dj Speedsta and Tarryn Alberts. Nike was out to impress with their camo sneaker showcase featuring MKay Frash.
Believe it or not there were gentlemen rolling around with the traditional bicycle trailers distributing ice cream. At the entrance you could capture the memories by taking Polaroid pictures with friends, family or Bae. Overall, it was nothing short of a great outing and will be one of those events that help grow the culture of hip hop and mainly basketball in South Africa if it will continue in future.
The dopest thing about it is that it was free to enter, all you had to do was to register online.
Below are some pictures taken by myself and Thabo to give you FOMO if you couldn’t attend the event!!
