On this one special night all the country’s hip hop royalty or hierarchy converged to see the top honours being awarded to the best of the best. The theme was Hip Hop Politics and it was hosted by the ever-hilarious Nina Hastie and Grumpy EMCEE Amu. This should be enough to give you a hint of what would soon take place.
Cadres join me as we embark on a short journey of a predetermined destination where I will share information for your entertainment…
Okay so the night started out with Youngsta CPT performing “Yasis” and a spoof take on Dj Speedsta’s hit single “I don’t Know”. Soon after that the real gang came out to open the show officially. Then the crowd favourite Kwesta DAKAR garnered the first standing ovation for the night when he took home the best digital sales award (He later received Song of the year with “Ngiyazfela Ngawe”). Cassper Nyovest took the Milestone award for #FillUpOrlando and went on to collect a couple more as the night progressed.
In all the excitement and festivities, there was always going to be a bit of spicy drama and jabs. This all began when the legendary Dj Bionic was saying his acceptance speech alongside all the older pioneers of hip hop in SA. As he was talking about the colourful past, his speech was cut off by the music which meant that he had gone over the time limit.
Not too long after that co-founder of Motif Records, Stogie T showed up for a scheduled performance of his hit single “By Any Means”. He requested the music to be cut and claimed that the audience was f@#king stupid for thinking that he’d perform that song and preceded to finish off Dj Bionic’s speech.
This was when Stogie T got booed off the stage.. #SAHHA2017 pic.twitter.com/LR2ob7BciN

He went on to say that if he had offended anybody…he meant it! He claimed to have done a lot for the artists in the industry and was subsequently boohed off stage. Just when you thought it was over Cassper won the album of the year category bringing his telly to 6 overall.
I got respect for Tumi BUT honestly he needs to stop tryna claim niggaz success… I paid alot money to get out of the motif contract. He should have left it there instead of tryna bring it up in every track he puts out… let it go.

He said his speech for the 6th time like any normal artist would right? But then the twist…
The exclaimed “wait! Tumi you aint done shxt for me bro!!!” and then walked away as he created the “drops mic” moment leaving the crowd in a frenzy! This will be a moment to be remembered for decades in SA hip hop, stories will surely be told to grandchildren about it.

As aforementioned, it was a spectacular night apart from minor hiccups such as sound and the occasional “Steve Harvey moment”. What is an award ceremony without any of that?
In my opinion Shane Eagle probably had the best performance for “Let it flow”
